Back to Broome 1.9.12

We are back in Broome with Paul and Kerry just in time for the annual Shinju Matsuri Festival. It has a Japanese name honouring the pearling history of Broome and a Chinese dragon mascot and consists of 10 days of special events. Yesterday we went to the markets in the grounds of the courthouse and then to watch the dragon boat races. They were unusual in that the course ran from the beach to a buoy in Roebuck Bay so it was difficult to judge the finish. I talked to some paddlers from Kununurra who had paddled the Ord River Marathon and said it was a terrific experience but exhausting.

The cobalt blue water, red rock and white Abeaches provide beauty at every turn and the cultural diversity of the people adds to the vibrant mix and charm of this town. Of course, clear blue skies and warm sunshine help!

The pool is inviting too

There are beautiful pearls everywhere.

It's a "happy" week or two.

Happy Father's Day to all of you Dads out there who work so hard to love and care for your children. Hope you had a great day. In the absence of children in attendance, Glenn had had me instead to ensure that he enjoyed a day of gourmet meals, reading, swimming, football viewing with mates and freedom from chores of any description.

Happy birthday to our dear friend Laine on the 4th and to our beautiful granddaughter Addison on the 5th. Also happy birthday to our oldest grandchild Alex who willbe14 onthe15th of September.

We went to the Sun Picture Garden Theatre which claims to be the oldest garden theatre in the world..(90 yrs) and saw "Marigold Hotel" with Dame Judi Dench. We loved it despite it being a bit close to the bone! The theatre has some interesting old projectors and the seating is deck chairs under the stars. Good idea to take a cushion.

We also braved the throng to watch the stairway to the moon when the full moon reflects on the mudflats to su ggest a staircase. Unusually, the moon was very red due to fires to the north.

We are off today on our 8 day cruise on the Lady M. If interested Google
