Still In Mallorca

29.4.13

Two days ago we drove to Cala Figuera, one of the most romantic and prettiest villages on the east coast. It retains its air of old world authenticity and locals still leave from here to fish and return in the evenings to mend their nets.

Yesterday we drove through the interior to Cala Ratjada on the north east coast. It was raining and misty but the skies cleared a bit when we got there.

Firstly we went to Cala Gat which was a beautiful, tiny cove with a sandy beach. A few brave Germans went for a swim in the crystal clear and chilly water.

Cala Ratjada has a long waterfront promenade, with an Italian fishing village flavour and is very pretty. We ate lunch overlooking the marina filled with fishing boats.

We have fitted into the Meditteranean way of drinking wine with lunch. So civilized!
Glenn ate seafood with black rice ( squid ink).

Most of the way we drove on freeway and nowhere is much further than an hour away.

Today the sun came out after five days of rain and because I have a heavy cold and feel lousy, we decided to stay close to home and relax. We walked up to the main square of Llucmajor and went to our favorite restaurant.. The Mercat. We ordered the plate of the day which happened to be lamb which we love of course being Aussies, and ate the best meal we have had so far in Mallorca. It was accompanied by zucchini and that purple stuff....eggplant.. and potato sautéed in something delicious. We followed it with chocolate brownies with ice-cream.

Before the main meal we had the staple olives with fresh bread and aoli, full of garlic and delicious. For liquid refreshments we had four beers and four red wines.. not each.. The reds were mine and the beers were Glenn's. At the end of the meal I felt better than I have for days I must say and Glenn looked pretty good too! (Glenn said when reading this. "What! I don't look good all the time?")

We watched the teenagers doing what teens do and the younger ones playing soccer and riding bikes. The toddlers were out too with watchfull parents. Lovely day.

After 4.5 hours we left and the bill was €37 (Aud 46) .Can you believe it?

Incidentally..... I love the IPad Camera Connection which allows me to copy photos directly from my camera to my IPad and then onto my blog. The people who design these gadgets are so clever!

For our grandson Alex. Here are the photos of our rental car we promised you.

Can you tell what is different from cars at home?
