UNDARA RESORT LAVA TUBES and volcano crater.

We booked into Undara resort and spent the first day exploring the various walks from the campground which took us to the Bluff Walk and the Bluff circuit lookout and then to Atkinson's Lookout.

The following day we went into the UNDARA volcanic lava tubes. We could only go into the lava tubes with a guide. We were bussed from the resort to the location of the tubes accessible by Undara resort and spent two hours on the tour.

Heading in to first part of the tube, created by molten lava flow.

Inside, looking out.

Down into the depths where it was pitch black.

The patterns and colours of the walls were amazing, although hard to see with our weak head lamps.

After leaving the Undara resort area, we stopped to walk to the crater of Kakani and then the trail around the rim of the crater.

Next stop Archer Creek rest area with a lot of vans. Vehicle acces to creek now closed. Cold night with frost in the morning. RAVENSHOE, only10 kms to the east, is the highest town in Queensland on the Atherton Tableland. That's why!

Around the campfire after the main course... Cleaning of griller on flames and waiting for the Glenn's carrot cake in the camp oven to cook!

Yum! With icing even!!
