We are right up on the Gulf Of Carpentaria at Karumba, a fisherman's heaven with blue skies and 27c. With a gentle sea breeze.
This place is packed with people and boats of all sizes as it is high season March - September. Nan and Ken went out on a fishing tour and hauled in about 7 large mackerel, some of which we helped them eat. I made chowder out of the frames and we all ate that last night.... Delish! Tonight, tiger prawns are on the menu. We did a big walk to the point late yesterday to watch the spectacular sunset over the sea which was typically brief. Kerry and Paul are taking a sunset cruise tonight and we leave here tomorrow. Glenn and Paul played golf today so have had their fix and are happy and we girls went to the markets. I bought two books and a dolly for Isabelle which transforms from a Red Riding Hood to grandma to the big, bad wolf, by flipping skirts and hats. Quite clever.
Before we left we stocked up on king prawns... The most delicious we have ever tasted. Glenn cooked some last night so we bought more. They were so good! We also bought some local mussels. Needless to say our freezer is full. We still have beautiful meat from Dungog, Ken's bait ( because he keeps beer in his fridge/ freezer, not food), and frozen veggies.
As we leave Karumba there are cloudy skies above and a sprinkling of rain. We are retracing our steps to Normanton and then turn east onto The Savanna Way heading for Cairns 702 kms away.
